HC Deb 15 September 1909 vol 10 cc2295-6W
Mr. ESSEX

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will review the facts of a case tried at Malmesbury on 3rd instant, in which the defendant, a child of 14 years, was sent to a reformatory for three years; was the defendant subjected to personal violence, at or just before his arrest, by a person who was a witness against him at the trial; was the child offered the advantages of the First Offenders Act; was the case tried before and under the conditions of a juvenile offenders' court; and will he state whether he will advise a mitigation of the sentence?

Mr. GLADSTONE

I will make inquiries, and will inform my hon. Friend of the result.
