§ Mr. McKENNAThe number of men employed (excluding those belonging to the Works Department) at the periods in question were as follows: 30th September, 1899, 7,152; 2nd October, 1909, 8,879; and the largest number employed at any time during the last 10 years was 9,445 on 9th July, 1904.
