HC Deb 04 November 1909 vol 12 cc2134-5W
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked whether persons who have hitherto been disqualified for the receipt of old age pensions on the ground that they have had Poor Law relief will become eligible for a pension on 1st January, 1911?

The same HON. MEMBER

also asked whether persons now in receipt of Poor Law relief will be eligible for old age pensions on 1st January, 1911?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

Under the law as it at present stands, the past receipt of poor relief will, after 31st December, 1910, cease to operate as a disqualification, and persons who before that date have been disqualified on the ground either of past or of present receipt of poor relief will become eligible for pensions as from 1st January, 1911, provided they are not actually in receipt of such relief on that date.
