SMYTHasked the Chief Secretary if he can state when the Estates Commissioners will commence negotiations for the purchase of a farm of land known as Beirne's Farm, and situate at Gortletteragh, county Leitrim, on the estate of Mr. Henry J. B. Clements, Lough Rynn, county Leitrim, for the reinstatement of some evicted tenants on this farm, as Mr. Clements agreed to sell this farm to the Estates Commissioners for this purpose when he was selling his property last January?
§ Mr. BIRRELLThe Estates Commissioners inform me that this estate is being sold by the owner direct to the tenants under the Irish Land Act, 1903. As proceedings for sale were only instituted last month, the Commissioners cannot deal with the estate for some time to come.
