asked the Secretary of State for War what is the full complement of horses and men of a battery of the Royal Field Artillery; and how many men and horses are at present attached to each of the batteries stationed at Glasgow and Newcastle-on-Tyne?

Mr. HALDANE

There are three different establishments for batteries of Royal Field Artillery serving at home called higher, lower, and training establishments. The establishments and strengths of the batteries in question are as follow:—

Up to 1st April these batteries were training batteries with an establishment of 60 other ranks and 45 horses. On 1st April they were raised to the establishments shown above—i.e., those for the new establishment of a training brigade and those for a brigade on the lower establishment respectively. There has not, therefore, been sufficient time to complete the new establishments.
