HC Deb 04 May 1909 vol 4 cc1010-1W
Mr. RENWICK

asked the Secretary of State for War whether any inquiries are made of immigrants into this country as to whether or not they have undergone training as conscripts in foreign armies, and if any record is kept of the number of such ex-soldiers who remain in this country and their respective nationalities; and whether such ex-soldiers are bound to report themselves to their respective Embassies in this country?

Mr. HALDANE

There is no information at the War Office in regard to the first and second parts of this question. As regards the third part of the question such ex-soldiers who are reservists do not, as far as is known, have to report to their respective Embassies or Legations. In most cases they report personally to the nearest Consulate, but in some cases they are only required to report in writing to their reserve districts in the home country.
