§ Mr. RAWLINSONasked the Undersecretary for India whether, in view of the increased cost of living, any, and, if so, what, alteration has been made during the last 38 years in the rate of pay of the officers of the Superior Accounts Branch of the Public Works Department in India; whether a memorial was submitted by such officers to the Government of India more 306W than a year ago; if so, whether any, and what, answer has been given to such memorial; and what steps the Government propose to take in the matter?
§ Mr. BUCHANANThere has been no increase in the rate of pay of the Superior Branch of the Public Works Department in India during the last 38 years except to some extent in the grade of examiners. The Secretary of State has no knowledge of the memorial referred to by the hon. Member or of what action the Government of India are taking on it, but he will ask that Government for information on the subject.
