HC Deb 02 March 1909 vol 1 c1388W
Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

asked whether Gaelic and Welsh are prescribed in the programmes of Civil Service examinations in which modern languages are named as subjects; and, if not, whether steps will be taken to have these two languages included in the programmes of such examinations in future.

The PRIME MINISTER

Gaelic and Welsh are not at present prescribed in the programmes of the examinations mentioned, and I understand that no Department has expressed a desire that either of these languages should be included in any scheme of examination for Civil Service situations.
