HC Deb 02 December 1909 vol 13 c584W
Mr. WOLFF

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether in Ireland the taxes on motorists and petrol, which it is intended to raise, will be administered by the Local Government Board or by the Board of Agriculture, and how they will be allocated; and whether the taxes so collected will be applied to the repair and upkeep of the roads?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The duties in question will, as part of the Customs and Excise Revenue, be administered by the Commissioners of Customs and Excise. As regards the application of the proceeds of the duties, I can only refer the hon. Member to the provisions of the Finance Bill and the Development and Road Improvement Funds Bill now before Parliament.
