§ Mr. JEREMIAH MacVEAGHasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that owing to the postponement of 1352W the examination for women clerkships numerous candidates who would have been eligible in June will be over the age limit in October; and, having regard to the time and money spent by them in preparation, whether special provision will be made?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSEThe holding of open competitive examinations for situations in the Civil Service depends upon the needs of the public service. The fact that no examination for women clerkships in the Post Office was needed in the spring of 1909 is not a sufficient reason for altering the limits of age for the examination to be held in the autumn.
