HC Deb 21 April 1909 vol 3 cc1639-40W
Sir F. CHANNING

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of possible consequences from the rise in the price of bread, he will without delay issue a circular calling attention to the necessity of strictly enforcing the provisions of the Bread Act of 1836, and requiring all bread, except fancy bread, to be sold by weight?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Apart from the rise in the price of bread, the Board of Trade have recently had under consideration the question of the issue of a circular calling the attention of local authorities to the provisions of the sale of Bread Acts with regard to sale by weight and the desirability of their enforcement. I propose to issue such a circular immediately.
