§ Mr. WHITEHEADasked the President of the Local Government Board how many children in England and Wales are boarded out outside their own union, and what is the number of the Local Government Board inspectors having supervision over them; how many children in England and Wales are boarded out within their own unions; whether these children are also subject to inspection by such inspectors; and, if not, whether the Government propose to take any steps for placing these children under similar regulations and conditions to those now applicable in the case of children boarded out outside their own unions?
§ Mr. BURNSAccording to the latest Returns, the number of children boarded out beyond the union is 1,941. There are three inspectors of children of this class. The number of children boarded out within the union is 6,664. The duties of the boarding-out inspectors do not extend to these children. The matter referred to in the last part of the question is under consideration, and I have not at present arrived at a decision with regard to it.
