§ Stephen HesfordTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the role of the Criminal Justice Interventions Programme in addressing drug-misusing offenders. [148428]
§ Caroline FlintThe Criminal Justice Interventions Programme (CJIP) is a programme of measures designed to help drug misusing offenders reduce their offending behaviour by accessing drug treatment. The programme includes enhanced arrest referral, drug testing on charge and a range of initiatives to improve treatment needs of offenders while serving their sentence. CJIP also encourages the positive reintegration into society of drug misusers after they have left the judicial system.
CJIP rolled out on April 2003 and will expand its coverage from April 2004.
