HC Deb 20 November 2002 vol 394 c146W
Mrs. May

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what recent estimate he has made of the additional number of school places that will be required in(a) the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and (b) Wokingham district as a result of the Government's plan for housing. [81758]

Mr. Miliband

It is for local education authorities to plan and keep under review the supply of school places in the light of proposed housing development, so as to ensure that there is sufficient provision to meet demand. The regional planning guidance for the South East assists local education authorities in the region to do this. Where an LEA can demonstrate overall growth in the need for school places it may apply to my Department for capital funding.
