§ 27. Ms KeebleTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recent assessment he has made of community-based initiatives to combat crime. [142670]
§ Mr. Charles ClarkeThe Home Office continues to carry out many evaluations of community-based crime reduction initiatives. Current activity includes evaluations of a large number of projects funded under the crime reduction programme, including community-based projects to reduce burglary, vehicle crime, domestic violence, anti-social behaviour, drug-related crime and town centre violence. We are also making a number of assessments of the work of the crime and disorder partnerships under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, including an examination of the role of voluntary and community groups in the partnerships and another on consultation—including with hard-to-reach groups such as the young, the old and members of minority ethnic groups—by partnerships.
