To ask the Secretary of State for Health what proportion of NHS hospital beds were occupied by patients who have had road accidents, in the latest year for which statistics are available. [132982]

The proportion of bed days attributable to patients in National Health Service hospitals in England in the year 1 April 1998 to 31 March 1999, who were injured in collision with a pedal cycle or motor vehicle was 0.35 per cent.
