To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to remove the financial limit on payments under the environmentally sensitive area and countryside premium schemes. [76363]

[holding answer 18 March 1999]: We have no plans to remove the financial limits which are necessary to ensure an equitable spread of available resources.

From 1 July 1999, this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
