HC Deb 17 June 1999 vol 333 c220W
Mr. Bob Russell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what instructions he has issued to police forces on providing police cover for carnival processions. [87357]

Mr. Boateng

None. The assessment of the policing needs of carnivals and similar events is an operational matter for chief officers of police, who will generally consult event organisers, local authorities and other agencies.

The Association of Chief Police Officers issued advice and guidance on public safety at organised events in April 1999, which recommends a multi-agency approach to public safety issues.
