Mr. Loughton

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment was made in preparing his White Paper, "Saving Lives-Our Healthier Nation", of the effect on diabetics of changes in the prescribing of insulin and insulin pen needles. [93288]

The White Paper,"Saving Lives—Our Healthier Nation", was published on 6 July. We are still considering representations from organisations on separate proposals to allow insulin pen needles to be prescribed by NHS general practitioners.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations were considered from the British Diabetics Association and diabetes sufferers before producing his White Paper, "Saving Lives—Our Healthier Nation". [93289]

The Department of Health received and considered 34 responses about diabetes from organisations, including the British Diabetic Association, and a further 63 from individuals.
