HC Deb 26 July 1999 vol 336 c76W
26. Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will review the powers of the Royal Parks Constabulary constables in relation to the area and roads surrounding St James's and Hyde parks. [91364]

Mr. Alan Howarth

I have no plans to review the powers of the Royal Parks Constabulary in relation to the area and roads surrounding St. James's and Hyde Parks. The Constabulary's primary duty is to maintain order in the Royal Parks and making them safe for park users. If there is a need to apprehend a person beyond the boundary of a Royal Park, they can call upon the Metropolitan Police for assistance. Constitution Hill in the Green Park, Birdcage Walk in St James's Park, and the North, South, West and East Carriage Drives in Hyde Park are already the policing responsibility of the Royal Parks Constabulary.
