Mr. Swinney

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will provide a breakdown of all allocations of money over £10,000 made under the Social Inclusion Partnerships in the financial year 1997–98; if he will state the allocations over £10,000 already made under this programme for the financial years 1998–99 and 1999–2000; if he will give(a) the amount allocated to running costs and (b) the total funds available for each of the next three financial years; and what percentage of this will be under the control of the Scottish Parliament. [65808]

Mr. Macdonald

[holding answer 18 January 1999]: No allocations have yet been made to Social Inclusion Partnerships. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State announced on 13 November that he would allocate £18 million of the £48 million available over the next 3 years to 3 new Social Inclusion Partnerships in Drumchapel, Greater Pollok and Blantyre/North Hamilton when they submit detailed strategies which demonstrate satisfactorily that they can meet their objectives. They have been asked to do so by 15 February. Further decisions on the designation of Social Inclusion Partnerships have yet to be made.

The funds earmarked for Social Inclusion Partnerships will be included within the Scottish Administration's Assigned Budget and will be subject to decisions of the Scottish Parliament.
