To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what assessment he has made of the operational effectiveness of waste management schemes funded to date under the PF1; and what plans he has to develop more PH-backed waste management schemes. [71168]

Five PH waste management schemes have been approved but only 3 contracts have been signed and the most advanced of these is at a very early stage of implementation. Given this and the fact that each of the contracts is for 25 years, it is too early to judge their effectiveness.

We will continue to approve PH waste management schemes if funds are available and they meet the Department's criteria for endorsement.
