submarines at RN Base Clyde; when the contract commenced; and what previous experience of such work the organisation had. [69062]

Mr. Spellar

Nuclear submarines are not refitted at HM Naval Base Clyde. Repair and maintenance on nuclear submarines at the Clyde Naval Base is conducted by Royal Naval personnel and Civilian contractors. To meet fluctuations in workload and when it has been considered cost effective to do so, contracts for maintenance work have been placed with civilian companies. These are principally Babcock Rosyth Defence Ltd., Devonport Management Ltd. and Rolls Royce and Associates, all of whom have wide experience in this work.
