§ Dr. Howells[holding answer 30 July 1998]: The normal retirement age of staff in the Senior Civil Service is 60, as it is for staff in Pay Band C (senior managers) and Pay Band B (junior and middle managers). Staff in Pay Band A (administrative and support staff) have a normal retirement age of 65. The headquarters of the Department currently has 445 men and 694 women in this Pay Band.
I have asked Chief Executives of the Department's Agencies to reply to the hon. Member separately.
