HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 cc595-6W
Mr. Peter Ainsworth

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what are the requirements placed on the BBC to advertise senior executive appointments externally. [59937]

Mr. Chris Smith

[holding answer 16 November 1998]: Under the terms of the Royal Charter and the Government's Agreement with the BBC, the BBC Governors are responsible for appointing the Director General and other senior members of staff. It is for the Governors to determine whether or not to advertise such posts externally.
