HC Deb 09 November 1998 vol 319 c13W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what sections of the railway track between(a) Carmarthen and Aberystwyth, (b) Pencader and Llandysul, (c) Carmarthen and Newcastle Emlyn and (d) Lampeter and Aberavon are no longer in public ownership; and what is the total mileage of those sections. [58436]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The British Rail Board has retained ownership of Pencader, Bryn Teify and Caradog Falls Tunnels since it is statutorily responsible for their maintenance. The collective lengths of these tunnels amount to less than one mile.

The remaining sections of track were sold several years ago, mainly to adjoining land owners including public bodies such as the Forestry Commission and local authorities.

More detailed information is not immediately available but I shall write to the hon. Member expanding on this in the near future.
