Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will make a statement on the aspects of policy covered by the Government's obligation to the Buenos Aires climate change conference to be held in November. [58229]

Mr. Meacher

My right hon. Friend the Deputy Prime Minister will be making a statement to the Buenos Aires Climate Change Conference (COP4) on Thursday 12 November. He will urge that as much progress as possible is made on outstanding implementation, questions of the Kyoto Protocol at COP4 and agreement on a work plan for early resolution of remaining issues. He will also update the Conference on progress made by the United Kingdom Government in meeting its own commitments as set out in the consultation paper 'UK Climate Change Programme', which was issued on 26 October.

The UK delegation for the Fourth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will consist of my right hon. Friend the Deputy Prime Minister, myself and the right hon. Member for Suffolk, Coastal (Mr. Gummer) and a total of 26 officials from the Departments of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, Trade and Industry, International Development and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
