To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action has been taken by his Department to implement the Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee's recommendation that there should be a prohibition on the use of mammalian meat and bonemeal in feed for all farm animals. [57003]

The Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (Amendment) Order 1996 (SI 1996 No. 962), which came into force on 29 March 1996, implemented the Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee's advice of 20 March 1996 by introducing a prohibition on the feeding of mammalian meat and bone meal to all farmed livestock.
