To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list(a) the hectarage of set-aside land in Staffordshire, (b) the location of the land and (c) the set-aside payments made in respect of the land. [53074]

For the 1997 Arable Area Payments Scheme, the latest year for which statistics are available, the information requested is:

  1. (a) the area of land set-aside in Staffordshire was 3,251 hectares;
  2. (b) the land would mostly have been situated in Staffordshire although if a holding is located on the border then some may have been allocated to a neighbouring county;
  3. (c) the amount paid in respect of land set-aside where the main holding is situated in Staffordshire was £1,023,728. The payment rate per hectare were £325.83 for normal set-aside and £228.65 for additional voluntary set-aside.
