HC Deb 31 July 1998 vol 317 c720W
Ann Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many companies were involved in defence industry promotional events on board Her Majesty's ships engaged in Ocean Wave; what was the cost to his Department of defence industry promotional events staged during Ocean Wave; and what contributions towards these costs were provided by the defence companies involved. [54405]

Mr. Spellar

A total of 47 companies, including divisions of companies, took part in promotional events on board a variety of ships and submarines. The majority of this activity was in the form of eight single day "Defence Industry Days", where the costs of the event were met by a flat rate contribution of £588, including VAT, per company per event. An average of twelve companies attended each of the eight days generating a total of £57,624. In addition some companies made use of other ship visits on an individual basis; there were no additional costs to the MOD as a result of these activities.
