To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1) how many New Deal clients have taken up voluntary sector placements or work on the environmental task force in Cornwall; [51816]

(2) how many New Deal clients have gone into full-time training or education in Cornwall; [51817]

(3) how many (a) subsidised and (b) unsubsidised jobs have been offered by employers to the Employment Service for the New Deal in Cornwall. [51818]

The Government Statistical Service figures for clients leaving Gateway to go into jobs show that, to the end of May 1998, 233 young people have gone into unsubsidised employment and 192 into subsidised jobs.

To the end of May 1998, 65 New Deal clients have started the Full-Time Education and Training (FTET) Option, 28 have started the Environment Task Force (ETF) Option, and 41 have started the Voluntary Sector (VS) Option.
