HC Deb 23 July 1998 vol 316 cc671-2W
Dr. Lynne Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will list the reports on MEL's traffic modelling for the Birmingham Northern Relief Road prepared by(a) his Department and (b) advisers to his Department following the report by Transport Planning Associates on the three Birmingham Northern Relief Road bids and preceding the signing of the concession agreement for the Birmingham Northern Relief Road; and if he will indicate who undertook them. [51512]

Ms Glenda Jackson

No. I do not have access to papers prepared for the previous Administration. Substantial evidence on traffic was, however, put before the Public Inquiry and the Inspector's Report on the evidence put before him was fully considered before the decision was reached to approve the proposed scheme.

Dr. Lynne Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what additional market research was carried out by MEL into the potential use of the Birmingham Northern Relief Road following the report by Transport Planning Associates on the three Birmingham Northern Relief Road bids and preceding the signing of the concession agreement for the Birmingham Northern Relief Road. [51513]

Ms Glenda Jackson

Any such market research is a matter for MEL, which bears the full revenue risk on this project.
