HC Deb 21 July 1998 vol 316 cc498-9W
Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will introduce legislation to require marriage certificates to include details of both parents of groom and bride; and what representations he has received from equal opportunities groups on this issue. [51471]

Mrs. Liddell

[holding answer 20 July 1998]: The Government propose to introduce legislation to phase in new marriage registers and reform the registration services in England and Wales when Parliamentary time allows. A certificate is a certified copy of the entry in the register.

No representations have been received from equal opportunities groups on this matter.
