§ Angela EagleAlthough no formal focus groups have been established by my Department to discuss genetically modified organisms a National Biotechnology Conference was held last year which brought together representatives from industry, environmental and consumer groups, the scientific community and Government. The aim of the conference was to discuss developments in biotechnology, their benefits and broad implications for human health and environmental safety and how these will influence the principles on which biotechnology regulation is based.
