§ Mr. BakerTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps the Government are taking to encourage supermarkets to maintain diversity of supply. [63382]
§ Mr. Rooker[holding answer 15 December 1998]: Decisions on the sourcing of produce at retail level are matters for the commercial judgment of the various retail companies, and it is not the Government's role to interfere in such decisions. We do however work closely with interests throughout the food chain, including the supermarkets, to encourage transparency in the interests of producers and consumers alike.
