HC Deb 17 December 1998 vol 322 c703W
Mr. Levitt

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many industrial tribunal claims initiated in 1994 still await a hearing. [64231]

Mr. Ian McCartney

In 1994–95, Employment Tribunals registered 88,061 applications which included 11,000 cases by people claiming part time worker pension rights. No statistical information is available to say how many cases initiated in 1994 remain in the tribunal system unheard. Currently 89 per cent. of cases receive a first hearing within 26 weeks of receipt. The majority of cases remaining in the system over a period of time are waiting the outcome of proceedings in other courts.
