Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many new patients seeking outpatient consultations had been waiting for more than nine weeks for an appointment on(a) 30 September 1997, (b) 31 December 1997 and (c) 31 March 1998 in respect of (i) Scotland and (ii) each health board of residence. [38169]

Mr. Galbraith

[holding answer 8 April 1998]: Unlike inpatient and day case activity, there is no centrally held list of patients waiting for outpatient appointments on a given date. Progress is monitored on the basis of activity in each quarter. The number of new outpatient referrals and the number and percentage of these who waited more than nine weeks for an appointment in the quarters ended 30 September 1997 and 31 December 1997, by Health Board of residence, is given in the table. Information for the quarter ended 31 March 1998 is not yet available.

Dr. David Clark

The information requested is not held centrally.
