HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 c414W
Sir Alastair Goodlad

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what representation she has made to the World Bank, IMF, regional development banks and other OECD aid donors about the increasing share of international aid accounted for by the EU and its member states and the decreasing share accounted for by others; and if she will make a statement. [38378]

Clare Short

We, and other donors have agreed an International Development Strategy which acknowledges that, to make progress towards its goals, the international community needs to sustain and increase the volume of development assistance. We hold discussions with other donors on aid levels, and respective contributions, mainly in the course of replenishment negotiations for Lome, IDA and the Regional Banks, and in discussions with the Development Assistance Committee of the OECD on reviews of individual donor programmes, most recently that of the United States.

Sir Alastair Goodlad

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what representations she has received on the effects of monetary union on(a) UK and (b) EU official development assistance; and if she will make a statement. [38536]

Clare Short

I have received no such representations.
