HC Deb 20 March 1997 vol 292 c850W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when final compensation will be paid to Paul Hill. [21260]

Mr. Kirkhope

As no final claim for compensation has yet been received from Paul Hill, it is too early to speculate about any matters associated with payment of compensation.

Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has made of the costs of the Government's defence in the case of Paul Hill. [21259]

Mr. Kirkhope

At the hearing in the High Court on 19 February 1997 between the chief constable of the Surrey Constabulary—judgement creditor—Paul Michael Hill—judgement debtor—and the Home Office— defendant—costs were reserved. In the light of this, no assessment for costs in this case has yet been made by my right hon. and learned Friend.
