§ Mr. ClappisonEmissions for nitrogen oxides were 2,206 kilotonnes and 2,218 kilotonnes for 1974 and 1994 respectively. Emissions of nitrogen oxide peaked in 1989 at 2,728 kilotonnes. The 1994 figure represents a 19 per cent. reduction on the 1989 peak. Further information can be found in the Department of the Environment's "Digest of Environmental Statistics 1996", a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House.
