To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the average annual cost of educating(a) a primary school pupil and (b) a secondary school pupil in Wales. [647]

The latest available information for Wales is for the financial year 1994–95. The expenditure per pupil in 1994–95 on LEA maintained nursery and primary schools in Wales was £1,637. The corresponding figure for LEA maintained secondary schools was £2,264.
