HC Deb 09 December 1997 vol 302 cc492-3W
Mr. Chaytor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what contingency plans are in place to deal with accidents involving (a) aircraft and (b) ships whilst transporting mixed oxide fuel from the United Kingdom to (i) mainland Europe and (ii) Japan. [18476]

Ms Glenda Jackson

Transporters of radioactive material within the United Kingdom are required, by statutory safety regulation, to have contingency plans in place to respond to accidents. The UK transporters of mixed oxide fuel have such plans in place for air and sea modes.
