§ Mr. JackThe table shows the number of complaints about the Inland Revenue that the adjudicator received in the three years to 31 March 1996:
Year Total received Take up for full investigation 1993–94 1,615 308 1994–95 2,581 504 1995–96 2,500 470 Total 6,696 1,282 The 5,414 cases which she did not take up for full investigation were mainly ones where the complainant had not first tried to sort out their complaint through the Inland Revenue's own complaints system. In these cases, the adjudicator puts the complainant in touch with the right person in the Inland Revenue; and where necessary helps the complainant clarify the terms of the complaint. The adjudicator calls such cases "assistance cases".
