HC Deb 15 May 1996 vol 277 c468W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many placements were available for physiotherapy students for each year since 1988; and if he will make a statement. [28654]

Mr. Richards

The number of placements is dependent on the individual college's course and the requirements of the validating body. This is not recorded centrally.

Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of state for Wales how many people have qualified as physiotherapists since 1988; and if he will make a statement. [28707]

Mr. Richards

The number of physiotherapists qualifying has been monitored centrally only since the introduction of the towards 2000 arrangements for non-medical education and training in 1993. The figures are as follows:

  • July 1993: 32
  • July 1994: 26
  • July 1995: 31

Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate he has made of the current number of physiotherapy vacancies; and if he will make a statement. [28653]

Mr. Richards

This information is not routinely collected centrally. However, a recent survey of physiotherapy departments estimated that there were some 77 WTE vacancies in total across Wales which took account of 62 additional posts arising from local service developments over the past two years.
