HC Deb 08 May 1996 vol 277 c180W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answers of 16 April,Official Report, column 426, and 24 April, Official Report, column 179, in respect of which schools he has received information on variations between their approved admissions number and their proposed admissions for September 1996. [27740]

Mr. Richards

Grant-maintained schools must set as their planned admissions limit a number no smaller than the current approved admission number. They are not, however, required to inform the Welsh Office when the proposed admissions in any school year exceeds the approved admission number. I am, however, aware that Stanwell school in Penarth has set an admissions figure for September 1996 of 264, which exceeds its AAN of 182. This was not made clear in my reply of 16 April.
