Mr. David Shaw

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what was the annual cost of lump sum payments paid by each public sector pension fund in (i) 1974, (ii) 1979 and (iii) the most recent year available; [27333]

(2) what was the annual cost of pensions paid in each public sector pension fund in (i) 1974, (ii) 1979 and (iii) the most recent year available. [27334]

Comprehensive figures are not available in the form requested. Information is available only for some of the centrally administered public service schemes and, for the earlier years in question, cannot always be disaggregated.

The schemes shown are all unfunded and expenditure comes from moneys voted by Parliament in estimates.
