HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 c27W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what proposals he has for research into ME; what statistics he has collected on the incidence of ME; what guidelines he has issued to health authorities on the coding and classification of ME; and if he will make a statement. [28399]

Mr. Hague

The Welsh Office does not at present have any specific proposals for research into ME. The main agency through which the Government support biomedical and clinical research is the Medical Research Council. The MRC is always willing to consider and fund soundly based research proposals in competition with other applications.

There are no centrally held statistics on the incidence of ME in Wales nor has the Welsh Office issued specific guidelines to health authorities on its coding and classification.
