To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the amount of revenue lost through tax evasion last year. [17642]

There is no reliable way of estimating the amount of tax evaded annually. But in each of the last four tax years, the Inland Revenue has brought into charge approximately £1.5 billion from its counter-evasion work.
