§ Mr. AllenTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what are the reasons for the prohibition of people with diabetes subject to insulin treatment from holding a large goods vehicle driver's licence. [30538]
§ Mr. NorrisThe prohibition is based on authoritative medical advice about the risk of a hypoglycaemic attack, which may occur suddenly and unpredictably and can cause loss of consciousness. A significant proportion of collapses at the wheel have been found to be associated with insulin treatment.
