To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the animal welfare issues for which his Department has responsibility. [34284]

[holding answer 25 June 1996]: The Welsh Office has responsibility for the welfare of livestock on farm, at market, at slaughter, for the welfare of all animals during transport and for domestic, wild and captive animals covered by the Zoo Licensing Act 1981 and the Dangerous Dogs Acts of 1989 and 1991.

Mr. Evans

[holding answer 25 June 1996]: Animal welfare matters are part of the duties of a grade 7, a higher executive officer, an executive officer and an administrative officer in the Agriculture Department of the Welsh Office and of an HEO and an EO in the local government division. Senior officers and lawyers deal with animal welfare as necessary.
